2008 SEASON REVIEW | ![]() |
Our 2008 Season 2008 started out with the installation of our new PTK 1200 under dash air to water intercooler along with a Chiseled Performance 5 gallon water tank that we have in the trunk. This took a considerable amount of time with all the tubing fabrication involved. The cool part of this installation is that you can't see the 'cooler until you bend right down to the ground--very trick and the passenger foot well is not obstructed in any way. This was the original intention in keeping with the street car theme. Once we re-tuned the car we were very happy with the colder air inlet temperatures that we can now maintain. Before the intercooler we had data logged inlet temps of 295-310'. Now, with the tank packed with ice, we see 80-90' at the end of the run!! After hitting the dyno we were rewarded with 737 hp at the tires, still in a VERY conservative state of tune. On the racing front it was a mixed year of sucess..........our first event was Fun Ford Weekend Norwalk. After driving the car over to tech we started it again only to hear a strange rattling noise coming from the top end of the motor. After some investigation we discovered that a rocker arm had broken loose. Unfortunately, we did not have the time (or parts) to make the repair at the track. Once home, the repair was made and everything was fine. In retrospect, in all the years that we have been doing this, this was the first time that we have been sidelined by a breakage so we were not overly disappointed. Our second outing seen us at a local Quick 8 race which we came runner up. Ironically enough, we actually ran quicker AND faster than the winning car--the race was lost at the tree :( Next time out brought us back to NMCA Milan and we placed third winning the 10 second bracket. We knew that the car was running slower than expected and upon investigation that night at the track we found that ourbypass valve had eated an O-ring. Once a new one was in, we ran the car and got an all time best ET!! With more testing we have gone as quick as 9.29@151.01 The interesting part is that on that particular pass, the car crept ahead on the trans brake and only recored a 1.55 sixty foot time!! We have since shaved our short times down to 1.38 seconds. With this in mind, we have no doubt that we have an honest 8.9X car on our hands. We are VERY excited and are looking toward the 2009 season since everything is finally coming together now--please come out to see us. In closing, we would like to thank everyone for all their support in the previous year and hope to see all of you agin in '09.
